April ’06 Installment: Tioman

Ambient and slightly distored pictures of Tioman Island, Malaysia.

Local mythology tells a mighty dragon who was not allowed to visit his sister. When he did anyway, the gods turned him into stone and he fell into the sea forming Tioman Island.

The sound ambience is courtesy of cfork and work submitted to the Freesound Project.

  1. It kind of looks like a map. A way to see the world?s greatness in what is smallest

  2. nice Joen… love the ambient music… might just leave it on all afternoon!

I’ve noticed today that your use of color has really morphed over the years, where when I first came across one of your sites (turtleshell back in 99 I think), things were darker, and less earthy… since you’ve been updating the design of your site, maybe the past 6 or 9 months, the use of colors in your installments and the site have been a broader range of earthy colors.

    Just a slight observation.

  3. Thank you all for your kind feedback!

My Internet has been down this weekend, hence the lack of immediate response.

I would’ve wanted to do a writeup on the photoshop technique used here, maybe later today.

  4. A writeup on the photoshopping would be awesome. Especially if that would include views of the originals – I’m really curious because this one has such surreal elements to it.

    That’s the plan 🙂

    And thanks again.
