YouTube + Quality = Profit?

YouTube annoys me to no end. It’s loaded with dimwitted comments, and it’s design, while simplish, is ugly. Even so, videos like these Transformers clips ([1], [2]) keep me coming back. So, now that we have to put up with all the other things, can’t Google at least improve the video quality? I know I’d willingly sacrifice at least 1 GB from my Gmail account if it made a difference. Can anyone tell me why the quality has to be last-century?

    I agree. Check out http://stage6.divx.com

I’ve been using that site for a few weeks now…unlike YouTube it’s got a sexy design + divx quality + copyright infringing stuff isn’t pulled off :p

What if YouTube was like that?

P.S. I’m redesigning my blog and would like to know what plugin you are using for the AJAX comment editing? I’m using WP AJAX Edit Comments and it doesn’t have the snazzy countdown…

Ah, I feel your pain there Joen. I just can’t understand it either, almost all of the flash based online video sites are the same; tiny resolutions and pathetic over-compression. Lets hope they figure it out soon…

ofg, perhaps the plug-in page might help?

Impressive. Looks totally illegal to me, but impressive nonetheless.

    Yeah, like Levi said: http://e5media.com/2007/04/02/edit-comments-plugin-for-wordpress/

Point of note: don’t use the old “Edit Comments”. I’m told it has a security error, so the above one seems to be the one to go for.

Yeah, it’s not like Flash video can’t look as good as Quicktime video.

Check out this site I made a while back: http://www.uglyandme.com/main.php?l=uk&s=teasers

(Feature Film Teaser Trailer, that’s the one with the good quality).

True, maybe Microsoft’s Silverlight will change things a little with MS braging about it’s native HD WMV/MP4 support.

Either way, I think we’re all sick of crappy user-video sites like YouTube. Lets see some real video sites!

It’ll bring healthy competition, that’s for sure.

    Sites, or services!
