Podcasts Are Great

So, late to the game as usual, I have discovered podcasts. They’re great. It’s radio, on demand. As an avid Mac critic, I’ve tried holding off installing iTunes, but finally succumbed. So far, iTunes is just the best solution out there for subscribing to, downloading and playing podcasts. I’ve tried TWiT’s webplayer, Digg Podcasts webplayer. They’re both okay, but iTunes is just more comfortable. Fine.

I’m currently subscribing to:

Now I just need more good podcasts. That’s where you come into the picture. Tell me: what I should be subscribing to?

Well, you had to cave in at some point you know. Have you come up with any other shortcomings compared to WinAmp, besides the completely lame way of making playlists? I haven’t…

DR has some really good stuff lying around (Danish only). A lots of it. Actually I’ve never moved on from that.

Well yeah on Windows it feels like it’s using a lot of more memory. Plus, it adds more stuff to run in the background. Oh, and I can’t find any global hotkeys.

I stumbled upon a stash of HG Wells podcasts/audiobooks, including the radio one that scared the states a while back.

    I’ll try that, thanks.

    Anything in specific?

  6. I can’t stand talk-podcasts, but then again, I can’t stand talk-radio either – so that’s prolly just me. What do you see in them?

What I do like however, are some music casts. One Phat DJ is something I like, but might not be to everyone’s taste. Funky House London Style is another one. Even funkier and less mainstream, so might be even less to everyone’s taste 😉

I must say, Michael H’s is the only other one I have in iTunes, but he hasn’t published in a long time!

I see the same as I see in talk radio, audio books and such. If it’s well done, then it’s a rather comfortable way to recieve news or info, while you’re busy doing something else.

Haven’t listened to that, should be interesting. I’ll check out your other suggestions as well!

Should warn that “Funky House London Style” is rather hit-and-miss. One Phat DJ always seems to be great though!

front row interviews, newsnight video podcast, digital planet, mark kermodes film reviews and start the week are all good bbc podcasts.

It’s all worth a shot! If I don’t like it, I know where the delete button is. That’s the beauty of this thing.

    Sounds great.

Any political podcasts? How about comedy?

  11. Chris says:

Check your email in a bit. I’ll just send you my xml and save us both the effort.

  12. Yes, I must say that you’re quite late to the game, but that’s ok, better late than never. I would highly suggest The Garrett Murray Podcast.

  13. Gareth says:

snowmail from the channel 4 is fairly political as is newsnight, start the week and broadcasting house but these are UK centric.

Indigital, dl.tv and the stuff mag podcasts are good if you are a bit of a nerd.

I would post the links, but I think your blog thinks i am spam when i do.

sorry joen, i can’t seem to edit my comment and my subscriptions are not working 🙁

Nothing is working these days!! Gah. I’ll look into it.

Until then, keep the suggestions coming. This is already a smorgosbord of ear-joy.

  16. I should do a post with the podcasts I subscribe to. There are quite a few by now.

You should. In more than one area, we share interests.

I have investigated. Subscribe to comments IS working for me, although rather slowly. Editing of comments is working too, although upon editing, the an SQL server error is spewed out. It’s still working though.

I’m hoping for updates to both plugins. Let me know if it still doesn’t work for you.

  19. Gareth says:

I can edit my comment now, although i do get the error. I am still not getting the emails, even after changing my address.

Chris emailed me about This American Life and I must say it is most excellent.

  21. Richard says:

NPR has many great podcast, which broadcast This American Life. They have one that you might like, it’s on current events. It’s called Wait Wait don’t tell me. Check it out.

BBC Radio 4’s “The Now Show” – Very UK-centric comedy, but it’s worth a try.

Boagworld – Various web related stuff

    Escape Pod – SciFi

FormulaPod – Only if youre into F1 of course

The Onion Radio News – Just silly

The Sunday Papers – 10min (or so) news reviewish by a very funny Englishman who also does BritishMac (but you wont like that one)

UK-centric is fine. I like to listen to local stuff that’s totally not local to me.

    Will check out.

Gotta admit, neither into F1 nor The Onion.

    Because it’s mac? 🙂

I actually used to listen to MacBreak Weekly.

  25. matthew says:

    Because it?s mac? 🙂

    yup.

  26. Joen says:

Don’t worry, despite what you might think, I’m not a mac hater 🙂 I’m just not a windows hater either 😉

  27. matthew says:

Ah, I read too much into

    As an avid Mac critic

    then 😉

  28. Joen says:

    I criticise because I love!

    • I love my iPod Shuffle.
    • Now that I can get linux on an Apple TV, I might get one.
    • When people ask me about what laptop they should buy, I say “mac”, because they make good hardware.
    • I read Gruber.

So even though I’m an avid mac critic, I’m not a rabid and zealous windows fanboy 🙂
