That would be so damned cool it’s not even understandable. And neither am I, I guess late days at work is doing silly things to me.

So damn cool. I could (possibly) drive without ever stopping. Mindboggling idea.

Heck, if they built a hydrogen/zinc SUV, I almost wouldn’t even mind people driving it.

Key there being almost I hope…SUV’s just look plain ugly and are very dangerous to everyone not in one…!

As far as I know, the problem is worse than that.

From what I have heard, SUVs are dangerous also to people in one. They fall over more easily, they’re harder to steer in traffic due to their “larger than normal size”, etc. False sense of security, so to speak.

But my main qualm with SUVs are their huge gasoline consumption. A problem that could possibly be solved with Hydrogen…

I can’t remember who it was, but someone made a crash test of both an F150 (big pickup for those not in the know) and the new Mini Cooper. Both cars were crashed at the same speed against an offset concrete block (in the same fashion as Euro NCAP). The Mini Cooper fared much better in this test. If the two cars had been crashed head-on, however, the result would have been much different, as the Mini would have been splattered due to the large mass (and therefore also momentum) of the truck. This is an excellent example of how the safety of some American cars, especially trucks and SUVs, is mostly an afterthought.

    They fall over more easily

    You said it.

Here’s a link for the Mini Cooper vs F150 test. with more detail on the guys sister site: http://www.bridger.us/2002/12/16/CrashTestingMINICooperVsFordF150.

This is a great idea, hopefully a big US oil company doesn’t buy the technology and kill it.

Yes, I sure hope that won’t happen… But then again, the idea that this has happened before with other technologies… Isn’t that just an urban legend?
