No | April 04 – Fruits

Well, nothing came out the way I wanted it to. But that just goes to show you that some things can’t be planned. Instead, I had to rely on “lucky accidents”. Image 04 is one of those…

The Idea

It was a simple idea. Place some fruits on a table, photograph them, blur them and present them.

Needless to say it took some extra effort. I had to explore ink effects and custom light effects to get something I deemed presentable.

But that’s the curse of having sworn yourself to monthly updates. It can be a harsh mistress at times.

The Music

As always, the property of the talented Kate. The track is called “Libera Me”, and you can download it here. Buy her CD—I did, and it often finds its way through my playlist.

What You Would Have Gotten, Had You Subscribed

Image #5 as layered TIFF file (better than .PSD). It’ll take a while for me to add it to the downloads section, so there’s your reason.

Please report if you experience any trouble with my header—it’s supposed to show a bluish image from april, and say “view april issue”. I’m currently having some mild trouble with the cookieing of selecting past images using the “prev/next” buttons—but i’ll look into that. Til then, feel free to post bugs here.

Enjoy my April serving!

    Hi Joen,

When I go to your Monthly’s through IE, it takes me to April as the first issue, but when I use Firefox, it takes me to March!?

    How bizarre is that?

  2. Nik says:

    Amazing work tho! ;o)

    Thank, I appreciate it.

About the march thing—I’m pretty sure it’s a cache thing, and trust me, I’m working on it /right now/.

There’s also a problem with the header, it seems to default to the blue april image.. and that is, only if you have the latest version of it. I hope to have it fixed within days.

I had the problem with cache before.. At work we use to create what we call an “osteloebe”.. the word is gibberish, but we always laugh when we solve the problem with an “osteloebe”.

The concept is to prevent the browser from using its cached version by providing it with a UNIQUE url. This is done by pasting some random code as part of a query string.

    For instance: url.html?osteloebe=someRandomNumber

Anywhooo, I’ll get back to fixing it! Thanks for pointing it out 🙂

    Update, I think it’s fixed

Okay, I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I think i’ve managed to fix both problems.

Try cleaning your Firefox cache nik, and try again. It SHOULD work from now on and til forever, since a cache preventer has been built into the part that loads information about the current month (I think that’s where it went wrong).

As for the header, I think that one is fixed as well—meaning you can now select an image by pressing “prev image”, and it should be stored.
